Lynn Louisa Woodruff is an American bioethicist and the current president of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities. She is also a professor of bioethics, medicine, and philosophy at Case Western Reserve University.
Woodruff was born in 1961 and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She received her BA in philosophy from Vanderbilt University in 1983 and her PhD in philosophy from the University of California, San Diego in 1988.
Woodruff is married to Dr. David A. Woodruff, a professor of philosophy at the University of Michigan. They have two children, Sarah and David.
Woodruff’s research interests include end-of-life decision making, medical futility, and resource allocation. She has published numerous articles in bioethics journals and is the author of two books, Withholding and Withdrawing Life-Prolonging Medical Treatment: A Clinical Framework (Routledge, 2001) and Futile Care: Finding a Good Death for Critically Ill Patients (Rowman & Littlefield, 2009).
Woodruff is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hastings Center, a bioethics research institute, and the President of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities.
